Choral Evensong is one of the great traditions of the Anglican Communion, when when we worship God with sung canticles and responses, a chanted psalm and an anthem. The service combines the stillness of prayer with the beauty of the Anglican choral repertoire, and offers a space for tranquillity and contemplation. We normally use the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) for its poetic, traditional language.
Music is provided by choirs connected with the church, or sometimes we welcome visiting choirs. We aim to maintain a high standard of music at all services at King Charles, but these occasions give wider scope for worship to be enhanced through high-quality music, in the cathedral tradition.
If you’ve not heard Choral Evensong before, you can get a taster by listening to BBC Radio 3’s weekly broadcast from churches around Britain.
Everyone is welcome at our services, whether you are a regular churchgoer or not.
